Mr. Alvin “Dumpy” Payne, Sr., 71, of Union City died Thursday, December 31, 2015, at his home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Rev. A. E. McCadney officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Alvin Thomas Payne, Sr. was born February 4, 1944, in Union City and is the son of the late L.T. and Minnie Pearl Payne. He was a graduate of the former Miles High School. He worked as a fireman for the City of Union City. After earning the rank of captain and thirty years of service he retired in February 1999.
He was married to Eleanor (McClain) Payne for over forty-four years.
Dumpy is survived by his wife, Eleanor Payne of Union City; a sister, Patricia Kerney of Union City; eight children, Darry Payne (Michelle) McCloud of Lancaster, CA, Kenny (Porcha) McCloud and Kevin (Dawn) McCloud both of Los Angeles, CA, Julius (Tamela)McCloud of Chesapeake Bay, VA, Alvin Detrick (Latreace) of Nashville, TN, Alvin (Margaret) Payne, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA, Jeanine Duggon of Union City, TN and William Duggon of Quincy, IL; a granddaughter whom he and his wife raised Alycia Duggon of Norfolk, VA; a sister in law Vivian Payne of Jackson, MI; thirty-seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
