Betty Jo Tharpe

Mrs. Betty Jo Tharpe, 76, of Smyrna, TN formerly of Paris died Friday, June 30, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born in Paris to the late Billy Lee “Chipmunk” Howard, Sr. and Elnora Milligan Howard on March 9, 1947. She graduated from Central High School. She was a former teacher in the Henry County School System.

She is survived by her children, Felicia (John) Chatman, Phyllis Palmer and John Bradley Tharpe; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; brothers; Billy (Annie) Howard and Michael Wells; sisters, Theresa Williams, Melissa (Joseph) London and Gloria (Richard) Thomas; aunts, Cordia “Penny” Freeman and Jacqueline “Tenny” Tharpe; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Christopher Howard, Robert Ford Howard and Larry Howard and a sister, Jaqueline Whitsey.
