Brenda Morris

Mrs. Brenda Morris, 62, of Paris died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Henry County Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Progressive Missionary Baptist with Rev. J. C. Webb officiating. Interment will be in Western Oak Grove Cemetery on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rawls Funeral Home. She was born March 29, 1950, in Mayfield, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Jackson and Dorothy Turner. She was married on December 27, 1970, to Leroy Morris Sr., who survives. She was the former Henry County Office on Aging director. Besides her time at the Office on Aging, she also served on the county’s Central Community Service Center committee and was a member of the Paris-Henry County Volunteer Board. In the community, she took time to be active in the Northwest Tennessee Senior Games, winning first place in shuffleboard for singles and doubles one year. She was active in NAACP projects and was a member of the Paris Kiwanis Club, where she was past president. She also worked with other volunteers as general chairman for the Christmas Kettle campaign in the Paris-Henry County branch of the Salvation Army. She graduated from Leadership Henry County and the WestStar Leadership program and helped put together some of the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center displays such as Black History and cooking. She also was a member of the Tennessee Nutrition Consumer Education Program Coalition. In church, she was active at Progressive Baptist Church, where she served as a worship leader during some special services. In addition to her husband, she leaves three children: Nicole Morris of Philadelphia, Leroy (Krystal) Morris Jr. of Mount Juliet and Justin (Andrea) Morris of Memphis; two brothers: George (Stacy) Walker of Georgetown, Ky., and Tony Walker of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters: Lisa Burnett of Georgetown and Jean Byas of Clarksville, Ind.; three grandchildren; some aunts; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Raquel E. Morris; two brothers: Wallace Jackson Jr., and Larry Jackson; and two sisters: Joyce Hudspeth and Francine Blanton.
