Mrs. Carmen Rena Jones Brent, Affectionately known as “Sista,” was born August 25, 1955, to James Wesley Jones, Sr. and Lue Allie Shepherd Jones. Her father preceded her in death, as well as a sister, Patricia Jones and a brother, James Wesley Jones, Jr.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Rev. Leroy Brent on September 6, 1975. They shared 39 blessed and faithful years together. To this union one child, Adrienne Renee, was born.
She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. Later, she became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Martin, TN. When her husband became the pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in South Fulton, TN and Fairview Baptist Church in Mayfield, KY, she became a member of each of these churches, respectively.
Carmen was a 1973 graduate of Haywood High School in Brownsville, TN and also received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was employed by the Union City, TN school system and taught there for 34 years. Carmen’s love for her profession and her students gave her great pride in serving others. She actively supported her church family and was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, educator and friend. Carmen held a special place in heart for her family. When her mother became ill, she and her husband moved her into their home where she lovingly cared for her until she became ill herself.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Rev. Leroy Brent of Martin, TN; her daughter, Adrienne Renee Brent of Memphis, TN; her stepdaughter, Leonde Robinson of Louisville, KY; her mother, Mrs. Lue Allie Jones of Martin, TN; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Goodlow of Nashville, TN and Mary Jones of Brownsville, TN; two brothers-in-law, William Brent (Jean) of Colorado Springs, CO and Michael Brent of Martin, TN; one nephew, Wesley R.
