Ms. Carrie Mae Shields, of Union City died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at her residence. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Smith officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. She was born October 29, 1942, in Lake County, Tennessee to John and Maggie Walker Shields. She was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by four granddaughters, Amber Powell, Taqushia Smith, Ebony Shields, and Essence McKinney, all of Union City, Tennessee; one grandson, Marcus Smith of Hickman, Kentucky; her special friend, John “Babe” Roberson of Union City, Tennessee; three sisters, Rose Spartin of Savannah, Tennessee, Pearl Shields of Clinton, Kentucky and Shirley Shields of Jackson, Tennessee; one brother, Charles (Cathy) Shields of Fort Myers, Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Walker Shields; a daughter, Gladys Marie Shields; a son, Willie James Pierce; one sister, Beulah Mae Cox and five brothers, Fred Shields, Ed Shields, Curtis Shields, Elvis Shields and James “Pug” Shields.
