Cleora Nicholson

Mrs. Cleora Nicholson, 93, of Hickman died Thursday, August 20, 2026, at her home.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Lake Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hickman City Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

She was born June 20, 1933, in Madison County, TN, to the late Ethan Isbell and Lula Yarbro Isbell Boyd.

To know her was to love her. Whether family, friend or someone she had just met, she loved everyone. She had a warm, sweet, gentle smile that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Mother Nicholson was a dedicated and devoted member of Lake Chapel MBC since a very young age. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as treasurer and on the Mother Board. Mother Nicholson was also of OES Eugenia Chapter 164 and served as Worthy Matron.

Mama Sue’s favorite pastime was listening to and watching videos of her favorite musical group, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s. She took great pride in her skills of reading, writing and math.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W C Nicholson, whom she married on September 6, 1952; three sons, Willie C Nicholson, Clarence Nicholson, and Tommy Nicholson; two grandchildren, Bryan Martin and JaMekka Young-Davis; and one great granddaughter, KeMani Davis. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Though she carried these losses in her heart, she remained a source of strength, encouragement, love and inspiration to all who knew her. We rejoice and find comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

She is survived by one son, Ricky Nicholson, Hickman, KY; five daughters, Dorothy Martin, Louisville, KY; Luvonda (Mike) Simmons, Fulton, KY; Frances Marie Nicholson, Bowling Green, KY; Amy Nicholson, Hickman, KY; and Diane (James) Young, Hickman, KY; one step daughter, charlotte (Donald) Southern, Martin, TN; one one step son, Larry Nicholson, Hickman, KY; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Nicholson, Fulton, KY. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, four step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren, a special friend, Mildred Johnson, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.

Mama Sue had a special way of brightening every room she entered and making everyone feel seen, valued and loved. While she was gentle, she had a spunky side that kept everyone smiling. Her legacy is one of faith, love, generosity and unwavering kindness. The countless lives she touched will forever carry pieces of her with them. We rejoice in knowing she is now in the presence of the Lord.
