Mrs. Cora Mae Brown, 69, of Martin died Sunday, November 23,2014, At Volunteer Community Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at McCabe United Methodist Church with Rev. Orrin Cowley officiating. Interment will follow in Parham Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the church. Cora Mae Brown was born on June 10, 1945 to the late James Albert and Jestine Higgs McMullen in Greenfield, Tennessee. At an early age, Cora professed hope in Christ at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, later on to become a dedicated member of McCabe United Methodist Church. She was always well known throughout the Martin Community for her personality and especially her anointed and amazing singing ability. Her spirit was contagious; and had a “walk” that could ignite the room. Cora always took pride in how she dressed and the pleasure of teaching children Sunday School lessons. Cora Mae Brown was married for 28 years to the late Charles Wardell Brown, Sr. She was the oldest of 10 siblings, two of which preceded her in death, Richard Wayne and Jamie McMullen. For over two decades she was employed at the University of Tennessee at Martin and was well loved by all. Her memories will be cherished by: her four children, Charles Wardell Brown, Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, Joy D. Etheridge (Michael) of Martin, TN, Valerie S. Smith of Goldsboro, NC, and LaDonna V. Brown-Oladeji (Ismail) of Goldsboro, NC; a grandson that she raised as her own, Charles Wardell Brown, III; five stepchildren, Charles Curtis Graves of Martin, TN, Ida LaNita Graves of Martin, TN, Alberta Graves of Tacoma, WA, Yvonne “DeeDee” Williams of Danville, VA and Matthew Graves of Tacoma, WA; eight siblings, Charles McMullen (Shirley) of Elgin, IL, Jimmy Ray McMullen of Memphis, TN, Josephine Albea of Dyer, TN; Betty Ann Adkisson (James) of Milan, TN, Jo Ann Peoples (Jimmy) of Greenfield, TN, Kenny McMullen of Dresden, TN, Jerry McMullen (Sharon) of Greenfield, TN and Billy McMullen (Kwanda) of Dyer, TN; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
