Curtis Blakemore

January 3, 1929 — July 19, 2020

Mr. Charles Curtis Blakemore, 91, of Cottage Grove died Sunday, July 19, 2020, at his residence.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel from 11 a.m. until noon. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Charles Curtis Blakemore, known more by the name Curtis, started his journey January 3, 1929. He reached his destination on, July 19, 2020. His parents, Roosevelt and May Bell Blakemore preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Barbara Ann; two sons, Tyrone and Dennille (Becky); two grandsons, Isaiah and Jamaree; one sister Mavis Larue Blakemore-Ward who presently lives in Gary, Indiana and nephew, Ron. Ron and his family were always proud to let it be known there’s nobody like “Uncle Curtis.” Three step children, Tanny, Cortez, and Franiek would be there showing concern about his wellbeing. Without a doubt, Curtis had a well-blended family for support including “just like a son” Robert Earl Kendall. There are also eleven step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.

Curtis attended Central High School when Mr. T.R. Wilson was principal. He loved sports, especially football as evidence of receiving recognition for being the top line-backer in Tennessee in the district in which Henry County was located. After graduating from high school, Curtis was drafted to serve our country as a Marine. Years later, Detroit Michigan became his home for only a short period of time. Whatever he did, he gave it his best. For many years, Curtis worked at the Mitchum Company and endless nights on his farm.

One of his favorite times was having conservation with the family around the kitchen table once supper was over. He loved his family. He also loved the members of Cedar Hill and his pastors from Rev. Allen to the current Pastor, Rev. Kenneth Humphrey. In the church, he was a member of the Trustee Board, a member of the finance committee and overseer of the cemetery. Even when his health began to fail, he continued to support his church. He was also a member of other organizations; American Legion, USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and he was a member of Confident Lodge 17. He fought a good fight and finished his course with pride and dignity.
