Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Greenlea Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday at the church.
Dorothy was born on January 24th, 1943, in Hickman, KY to Ruben and Lela Pirtle.
Dorothy lived in the South Fulton/Fulton area her entire life. She lived with her parents and faithfully helped take care of them until they passed away.
Dorothy graduated from Rosenwald High School in South Fulton, where she was a prominent basketball player. She was the oldest of six girls whom she loved dearly. She was like a second mom to all the girls.
She worked at the Lear Siegler plant in Union City, TN until it closed and then at Holiday Inn in Fulton, KY for a time. She later retired from Henry I. Siegel having worked at both the Fulton and South Fulton plants.
Dorothy had three sons, Floyd, Frederick (Baldie), and Damon (Tony) whom she loved dearly. She was a single parent that devoted her entire life to her boys. She joined the St. Paul A.M.E. Church at a young age and later joined the Mt. Olive M.B. Church as an adult.
Dorothy loved the Lord and life. She loved joking, laughing, and sitting on her front porch. She would be on that porch at 8:00 in the morning fully decked out with her lipstick and earrings. She loved talking on the telephone and her favorite question was, “What you know, girl?” She loved cooking and trying to feed people whenever they entered the door. She was a generous sole that would share whatever she had with anyone who needed it. She will be missed by many.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Floyd Pirtle & Tony Pirtle, Fulton, KY; her sisters, Peggy Bransford, So. Fulton, TN; Patricia Rose, Bessie Cawthon (Joe), Fulton, KY; LaQuita Slayton and Felicia Lightner (Thomas), So. Fulton, TN and one brother-in-law, David Polk, So. Fulton. She leaves several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two special friends, Ada Misher and Clara Alexander.
Dorothy was preceded in death by both her parents, her son Frederick Pirtle, her sister Ada Polk, a niece, DeAndria Slayton and three brothers-in-law, Billy Bransford, Jerome Rose and Bobby Slayton .
