Dwayne Hensley

Mr. Harold Dwayne Hensley, 63, of Union City died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at his home.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Visions Community Baptist Church.

Visitation will begin at noon on Friday at the church.

Harold Dwayne Hensley was born in Union City Tennessee on February 18, 1960, to Winona Marie Caldwell Hensley and the late Harold David Hensley.

“Dwayne,” whom he was affectionately known as, but would answer to Harold from some, was married to Yulanda Johnson, October 21, 2000. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist church where he was also baptized. He later served as minister of music at Greater Victory Freewill Baptist Church and New Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church for several years. Later he became a member and minister of music at Visions Community Baptist Church in Union City, TN. Dwayne also started a gospel group known as the Praise Project. They traveled all over singing and ministering the word of God through song.

Dwayne attended Union City High School and graduated with the class of 1978. He furthered his education at MTSU located in Murfreesboro, TN. He finished his college studies at the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Political Science.

Dwayne started his working career working alongside his dad in the family business, Hensley Plumbing. Later, he worked for the city of Union City at the Waste and Water Department for 24 years. He became the first black department director in Union City’s history.
Dwayne was active in his community service. He was the vice president of the NAACP Chapter in Union City. At the age of 18 he joined the Silver Trowel #2 PHA lodge of Tennessee and was a faithful member. He was also the County Commissioner of Obion County for over 20 years until his health began to decline. He dedicated his life to helping others.

Dwayne leaves to cherish his memories three children, Eric Dwayne Hensley (Porsha) from Nashville, TN, Harold Dandrae Hensley, and Whitney Marie Hensley of Union City, TN, his beautiful grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Elijah Divine and Elliot Divine Hensley of Nashville, TN, Laylah Elise Davis and Trystan Isaiah Hensley of Union City, TN, bonus mother; Linda Wiese (John) of Union City, TN, one sister; Dawn Partee of Brownsville, TN, five brothers-in-law; Warren Johnson, Derrick Johnson, Eric John son, Andre Robinson, and Alex Robinson, one aunt; Mary Ruth Hopkins of Colorado, one uncle; Robert Hensley of St. Louis, MO, a brother and best friend; Maurice Strickland and bonus daughter, De’Lakeenah Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Harold David Hensley , one brother, Eric Wayne Hensley, one son, Dexter Wayne Hensley, and grandparents, Dora and Lester Caldwell and Lillian and David Hensley
