Mr. Earnest James Brooks, Jr., aged 60, of McKenzie, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Obion River District Association in McKenzie, with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday at the same location.
Born on September 6, 1965, in Cook County, Illinois, Earnest was the son of the late Earnest James Brooks, Sr. and Lou Jean Brooks. Throughout his life, he was known for his love of family, laughter, and especially music. From an early age, Earnest discovered his passion for the bass guitar, which he taught himself to play at just seven years old. He used his musical talent to bless others, performing with his family's gospel group and various churches, sharing his gift of music until health challenges arose in 2003.
On April 18, 2014, Earnest married the love of his life, Eugenia Brooks, and together they built a life filled with joy and shared memories.
Earnest is preceded in death by his father and his sister, Amy Carter.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Eugenia Brooks; his loving mother, Lou Jean Brooks; his sister, Regina Brooks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his kind spirit, sense of humor, and passion for music.
His legacy of love and joy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched.
