Eddie Joe Thomas

Mr. Eddie Joe Thomas, 61, of Martin died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at McCabe United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Parham Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Eddie Joe Thomas was born April 19, 1962, in Greenfield, TN to Willie and Dorothy Thomas. The family moved to Martin in 1966.

In 1976, he moved to Chicago, ILL with his mother and 3 siblings. He spent most of his young adult life in Chicago. He came back to Martin in 1998 and worked at Tyson, Union City, TN for two years before returning to Chicago.

In 2006, he returned home for good. He accepted a job at IFCO, a company he grew to love. He was a devoted worker at all his jobs but his boast for IFCO was enjoying being able to say that he was never late, never missed a day unnecessarily and about the many friends he gained from there – they became a family of friends. He remained there until his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in November 2022.

He didn’t let his diagnosis stop him. He continued to engage in life together with his life partner, Charlean, who he met on October 10, 2013. Their favorite things to do were dancing and singing. Someone told him he could sing, and he believed it. Eddie Joe named himself the “Equalizer, “and it remains a mystery today why that name. His hobbies were fishing, listening to old school music, cooking, and waiting for the next grill competition! Eddie Joe loved family and enjoyed visiting from one place to the next; but seemed to always end up at his baby sister’s, Gail.

November 2022, Eddie Joe accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life and his journey with Jesus began. Over the next 11 months; he had the chance to experience Jesus in a way he had never known before. Sadly, for us, mid-morning on October 10, 2023, Eddie Joe’s Lord and Savior called him home.

He was preceded in death by Mr. Willie Thomas (father), Mrs. Dorothy Thomas (mother) and Alice Faye Tipton (sister).

He leaves many loved ones to celebrate his life and cherish his memories: five Children: Marquisha Thomas and Titeanna Thomas of Chicago, ILL. Kearra Thomas, Kilwonna Thomas, and Tyrese Thomas of Martin, TN. ten Grandchildren: Aniya Stokes, Tamyiah Roberson, Khalani Wright, Davion Moffatt, Shamariah Madyun, Keyoriah Madyun, and Kayvion Madyun of Martin, TN. Charvon Moore, Travion Moore and Jaziyah Winters of Chicago, ILL. one Great Grandchild: Brynleigh Stokes of Martin, TN. five Siblings: Willie (Debra) Thomas Jr; Doris Jean (William) Brent; Dorothy (Thomas) Seales (Reedy); Katie (Robert) Robinson; and Gail Thomas all of Martin, TN. Charlean Scott, his Life Partner of 10-years, Martin, TN and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
