Florence Lucille Scott

Mrs. Florence Lucille Scott, 83, of Martin died Monday, December 21, 2015, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev Jackie Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Parham Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Florence Lucille “Lucy” Scott was born April 23, 1932. Lucille was born in Martin, Tennessee to Doyle and Flora Pearson. Martin has been her home her entire life. She attended Weakley County Training School. In 1951, Lucille and Vander Scott were united in marriage. To this union, together they had sixteen children. Her husband preceded her in death on August 23, 1984. They attended Terrell Grove Baptist Church where she was secretary of the church. Then after the closing of Terrell Baptist Church, they joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where they both were faithful members until death or illness prevented their attendance. She was a member of the Mothers Board, was on the Kitchen Committee and the Early Morning Prayer Team. She worked at UT Martin for 31 years as a cook and was loved by all the students she came in contact with. She was a very joyful, loving mother, sister, aunt, granny and friend. She was known for wearing her beautiful hats on many occasions, and she wore them well. She leaves to cherish her memory: twelve loving children, Dorothy J. Garmon (Richard), Lou Pearson, Rose M. Arnold, Lula M. Evans (Payton), Walter C. Scott (Kim), Pomoni J. Thompson (Stanley), Bobby Joe Scott (Angie), Robert E. Scott (Brenda), Randy D. Scott (Jackie), Hattie Hankerson, George Scott Sr., Vander Scott, Jr. (Ernestine), and Willie Nelson Scott (Minetta); forty-seven grandchildren; fortyseven plus great grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by: Bishop J. C. Scott, Lula B. Gilbert, Jerlean Scott, Virgina Scott, Sue Jane Pearson, Doyle A. Pearson, James Pearson, Charles “Charlie P.” Pearson and Martha Gardner.
