Geneva Polk

January 8, 1939 — February 10, 2015

Ms. Geneva Polk, 76, of Martin died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Hillview Community Living Center. Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist with Rev. Leroy Brent officiating. Interment will follow Parham Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Geneva Polk was born on January 8, 1939, in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Fred and Eller Wease Polk, the tenth of twelve children. She and her family moved to Martin, Tennessee in 1942, to their farm on Hyndsver Road. At a young age, Geneva was baptized and became a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She attended elementary school and graduated high school at Weakley County Training School in 1958. After graduating high school, Geneva moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. She lived and worked in Minneapolis for forty-six years. She retired from Honeywell after thirty years of a successful career. Geneva was a loving and caring person. The joy of caring for others was instilled in her at an early age. She spent all of her vacation times and extended leave times from Honeywell to come to Martin to care for her mother and father. She loved to sew and shop, always sending her family boxes and boxes of clothes. She also loved antiques and interior decorating. Geneva leaves to cherish her memories: three sisters, Lucille Polk Howard and Leora Polk of Martin, Tennessee and Rebecca Polk Lowe of Detroit, Michigan; two brothers, Fred (Rose) Polk, Jr. of Oak Park, Illinois and John D. Polk of Chicago, Illinois; niece, Barbara Polk Ray of Nashville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Gloria Polk of Hazel Crest, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Geneva fought a good fight and finished her course. She will be dearly missed. Rawls Funeral Home - Union City 731-885-8110
