Gladys Johnson was born on December 9, 1927, in Water Valley, KY, to loving parents William Clark and Virginia Moody Clark.
Gladys married Harry Winford Johnson in 1948 in Corinth, Mississippi. Soon after they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. While there, Gladys pursued her passion for helping others by working in the medical field as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
With lots of love to give, Gladys and Harry expanded their family, becoming foster parents to twins, Dwayne and Dwight Johnson. Soon after the Johnson’s relocated to sunny Santa Ana, California.
After living in California for over 25 years, fishing, camping, and traveling in their RV, Gladys and Harry made their way back home, settling in South, Fulton TN.
After losing her husband of 51 years, Gladys continued her faithfulness to Christ and did not lose her zeal for life. She was a member of First Assembly of God, in Union City, TN. Gladys loved the Lord and proclaimed his name to anyone who would listen. A woman after God’s heart, she was a faithful servant until her last days.
An avid lover of pets, Gladys has been Mom to many animals. Bobby, her beloved Parrot, dazzled her with dancing and singing. Along with Bambi the Terrier, Star the Cat, and her precious GiGi.
Well into her 80’s, Gladys could be caught riding her lawn mower or tending to her pear trees on Highway 45 East. She loved eating turnip greens and would eat you out of house and home. Occasionally, you might catch her dancing, giving her best Michael Jackson impersonation. She loved writing and creating plays at church and donated to children and churches locally and internationally. In her spare time, she sent love notes to those near and far and always managed to remind you to Praise the Lord!!
A devoted child of God, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and more Glad’s memory will continue to live on through those whom she loved the most.
Gladys is survived by her devoted sister/caretaker Sue Jones (Fulton City, Kentucky) and brother-in-law/caretaker Frederick Jones (Fulton City, Kentucky), who were right by her side until the end.
Nephews: William Dereke Patterson (Louisville, Kentucky), Kenny Patterson (Portsmouth, Virginia), and niece Franeisha Jones (Louisville, Kentucky).
Sarah Patton (Nashville, Tennessee) and Troy French (South Fulton, Tennessee), who affectionately called her grandmother and her cousin Charlotte Summers (Fulton, KY).
Along with a host of special friends and cousins who all had a special place in her heart.
