Horace Martin

Mr. Horace Martin, 87, of Fulton died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Greenlea Cemetery in Fulton. Interment will follow in Greenlea Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday in Rawls Funeral Home Chapel in South Fulton.

On April 12, 1936, Mr. Horace Martin was born to the late Geraldine Gardner and Lon Martin Sr. in Tiptonville, Tn.

He married Aner L. Tate on April 21st, 1973, and settled in Fulton Ky. He provided for his family by farming, raising hogs and tobacco, fencing and cutting trees and hauling hay all with only a third-grade education. In his early years, Horace made history by becoming the first Black man to join the South Fulton TN police department.

Horace worked hard all his life until he retired around 2000.  He enjoyed several years of retirement filled with caring for some of his youngest grandchildren. He lost sight in both eyes around 2015, due to Glaucoma. His last few years were spent enjoying company and listening to his favorite music.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his brother, Major Martin, daughters Sharonda Roberson (Charles) and Melissa Frazier (David) both of Fulton. KY.  Carolyn McDaniel and Sherry Campbell of Kankakee, IL., and Lavosse (Edgar) Johnson of South Fulton, TN.  Along with his son Terry Martin (Irene) also of Kankankee, IL, as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings: Colie, Mary, Vivian, Rena, Joan, Ben, Lonnie, and Lon along with two other sons, McKinnely and Alvin Sellers.
