Mr. John "JD" Massey, Jr., 86, of Union City died Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Greater Bethel Church of God In Christ. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
John D. Massey, Jr. was born on October 5, 1937, in Obion County, Tennessee to the late John D. Massey, Sr. and Aner Mai Harris Massey. He grew up and went to school in Woodland Mills, TN.
JD was a member of Greater Bethel Church of God in Christ. He started working at a young age farming alongside his dad. Later, he went to work at Reelfoot Meat Packing Company where he worked for numerous years. Afterwards, he went to work at Kincaid Factory and worked there until it became Kohler and he retired from Kohler. After retirement, he put more time into his own business of being a Lawn Care Specialist. He enjoyed and took pride in his lawn business. He would say that his daddy taught him well, how to work, and to be the best at what he did. He loved his tractors and being outside. He was known as the hardest working man in Union City, TN.
He leaves his family to cherish his memories, children; Jerry (Valerie) Massey of Ypsilanti, MI, Jacquelin Massey of Murfreesboro, TN, two stepdaughters; Florence (Richard) Johnson and Shirby (Joe) Harris of Union City, TN, fifteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Siblings; Queen (Billy) Amos of Paducah, KY, Alice Simpson of Union City, TN, Dorothy (James) Murphy of Gulf Port, MS, Linda King of Paducah, KY, and a god-sister; Patricia Small of Milan, TN. JD will be missed by a host of relatives and friends
