Mr. James Robert Boddie, 64, died Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis.Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvin Wade officiating. Interment will follow Beech Grove Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. James Robert Boddie was born on April 30, 1953, in Tipton County, Tennessee, to Jessie James Boddie and Martha Mae Yandell Boddie. James was a one of a kind man - strong, stubborn, funny with a sense of humor. He always managed to see an upside in a negative situation. He loved fishing and gardening. He worked at the sawmill in Obion, Tennessee, for twenty-three years before he moved to Union City, Tennessee, and became a legend in the community. Most of the community knew him as Boddie or Smooth, because he could navigate through negative circumstances into humorous stories. He is survived by his children, Corey Boddie, Linda Bryant and Tammi Boddie; his sisters, Martha Mae Boddie and Ruby Willard; ten grandchildren; one greatgrandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James Boddie and Martha Mae Yandell Boddie; his sister, Jessie Mae Boddie Browning; his brother, Charles Boddie; his daughters, Melissa Boddie and Kathy Boddie and grandson, Darion Boddie-Thompson.
