James "Jaybird" Chambers, Jr.

Mr. James “Jaybird” Chambers, Jr., 77, of Indianapolis formerly of Union City died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in Indianapolis. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvin Brooks Officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. He was born on August 3, 1935, in Union City, the son of James Howard and Florence (Williams) Chambers. He attended Pilgrim Baptist Church and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Miles High School graduate. A United States Navy Veteran and was a retired 35 year employee of Chrysler. He is survived by three daughters, Darphine Chambers, Gail Chambers and Bernice Peterson; five sons, James Chambers, III, Donald Chambers, David Chambers, Benjamin Peterson and Ricky Peterson; three sisters, Vera (Bobby) Burress, Georgia (James) Brann and Velma (Willis) Hardy; grandchildren; great grandchildren; long time friend, Mildred Blair; special aunt’ Sarah Chambers; and a host of relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Chambers; two sons Robert Hall and James Michael Chambers; parents James Howard Chambers, Sr. and Florence Chambers.
