Mrs. Jannie Louise Turner, 83, of Union City died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Smith officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jannie Louise Cross Turner was born February 6, 1930, in Woodland Mills, Tennessee, daughter of the late T.C. and Cressie Cross.
Mother Turner was a devoted member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Mother Board, Missionary Society and the Senior Choir. Mother Turner loved God, her family and her church.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony on January 19, 1950, to Charlie Turner, Jr. To this union, six children were born.
She worked for thirty-four years in many areas at the Obion County General Hospital, now the Baptist Memorial Hospital, with being the first black Surgical Technician hired.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of sixty-three years, Charlie Turner, Jr.; three daughters, Charlene Turner Byrd of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Janice (Willis) McGee of Romulus, Michigan and Genice (Jeff) Parchman of Union City, Tennessee; one son, Charles Edward Turner of Union City, Tennessee; two daughters-in-law, Ann Turner and Fay Cross, both of Union City, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Thomas Edward Turner and two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Vonetta Turner, all of Union City, Tennessee; eleven
grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Ronnie Turner and Harry Cross.
