Mr. Jeffrey Lee Mays, 53, of Pensacola, FL formerly of Hickman, KY died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at West Hickman Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hickman City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday at the Church.
He was born November 7, 1961 to Fred and Ineva Nicholson Mays. He was a member of Lake Chapel M. B. Church.
Jeff was united in holy matrimony to Tonita Hughes Mays. To this union, two daughters were born, Jenéa and Keishani Mays, who joined two older brothers, Jeffrey Lee Hendrix and Quintin Shean Hendrix.
He attended Hickman Elementary School, graduated from Fulton County High School, and then attended Murray State University, in which he earned his Associates Degree. In 1985 Jeff enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after twenty years of service he retired in 2005. He continued to work at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, FL as a medical technologist. He enjoyed his work and co-workers.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of thirty-one years, Mrs. Tonita Mays; two sons, Jeffrey Lee Hendrix and Quintin Shean Hendrix, both of Hickman, KY; two daughters, Jenéa Hughes Mays and Keishani Kadid Mays; granddaughter, Nakeria Bryant, whom he raised as his daughter, all of Pensacola, FL; four sisters, Lizzie (Alex) Evans of Detroit, MI; Frances (Roy) Swift of Hickman, KY; Stephanie (Brian) Prude of Columbus, MS; and Angela (Byron) Blackman of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, James (Loraine) Mays and Fredrick Mays, both of Hickman, KY; mothers-in-law, Bettye Mays of Hick-man, KY and Trudie Hughes of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Nyeta Hughes of Park Forest, IL and LaTonya Hughes of University Park, IL; five brothers-in-law, James D. Hughes of Louisville, KY; Edward J. Mays of the Middle East; Marland (Tommy) Hughes of Kansas City, KS; LaMorris Gordon and Patrick Hughes, both of Chicago Heights, IL; special uncle and his road dog, Eddie Ray Dean, Sr. (Brenda) of Hickman, KY; best friends, Joe Warren of Paducah, KY; Greg Nelson of Pensacola, FL; H.L. Benin of Rowlett, TX; Dile Bragg and Sharon (Carl) Palmer of Pensacola, FL. He also leaves to cherish his memories eleven grandchildren, eighteen nieces, eleven nephews, aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, friends and his Naval Hospital family. Last but not least, his great-nephew, Pete Swift and his aunt, Dorothy Gaston.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fred and Ineva Mays; brother, Fred Namon Mays; fathers-in-law, James Mays and Monroe Hughes; and brother-in-law, Timothy Mays.
