Jerry Wayne Slayton

Mr. Jerry Wayne Slayton,49, of Union City died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November, 13, 2014, at Exchange Street Church of Christ with Rev. Arthur Hannah officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. He was born Sept. 11, 1965, in Union City, son of Martha Helen (Barton) Slayton of Union City and the late Willie Slayton Sr.He was a graduate of Union City High School, where he excelled in sports and was named to the UCHS Basketball Hall of Fame. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he had been employed at Kohler in Union City and was a member of Mt. Zion CME Church in Union City. He is also survived by his wife, the former Juanita Jones; his daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Vern Rogers of Southport, Fla.; three sons, Andrew Slayton of Dallas and Shyheim Slayton and Jerry Slayton Jr., both of Union City; his stepdaughter, Shada Jones of Paducah, Ky.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Bessie Cawthon of South Fulton and Willie and Deborah Slayton of Germany; two sisters and his brother-in-law, Shirley Carter and Doris and William Samuels, both of Union City; and seven grandchildren.
