Mr. John Evan Harris, 88, of Union City died Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Union City Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Rawls Funeral Home.
He was born September 25, 1925, to the proud parents, the late John Billy and Nancy Evans Harris in Tigrett, Tennessee.
After finishing high school in Trenton, Tennessee he joined the army to serve his country. When he was discharged from the Army, the whole family moved to Union City, Tennessee. He went to work at Duncan Tankage Plant where he worked until he retired. He married Susie Russell. To this union a son, Russell Evan Sims, was born. His wife and son preceded him in death. He joined Friendship Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eugene Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his memory his very special friend, Jessica Liphford and her family, a daughter, Valerie Mack, two sisters, Nora Harris and Mildred Freeman, of Union City, Tennessee, two sister-in-laws, Barbara Harris and Willie Jean Harris, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, two brother-in laws, Ben Donlow of Union City, Tennessee, and Marion Johnson, of Denver, Colorado. A host of grand children, cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
