Mr. Johnny Ray Washum, 66, of Paris died Friday, August 4, 2023, at Henry County Healthcare. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at McPhearson-Rawls Funeral Home Chapel. Johnny Ray Washum, age 66, was born January 5, 1957, to the late Johnny B. Washum and Willie Ethel Tharpe Washum in Mansfield, Tennessee. He accepted Christ at an early age. Johnny Ray was a 1975 graduate of Henry County High School. He then entered the US army in 1977. Our cousin and brother was known for his mannerism and quietness. He did not like to complain. For those of us who grew up with him on Liano Street, he was known for those dreamer color, hazel eyes. His passion was playing the guitar. Those left to cherish his memories, daughter; Eisha Gill Whatley, four grandchildren, one great-grandson all of Georgia, one aunt, Mayola Tharpe, first cousins, whom he referred to as his sister and brother, Patricia (Robert) Tharpe, Shelia (Ronnie) Tharpe, Fred (Lutrecia) Tharpe, Donnie (Sonya) Tharpe and Timmy Tharpe and several other cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald “Jug Head” Washum, maternal grandparents, Grant and Floya Teague Tharpe, paternal grandparents, Joe and Betty Lightfoot Washum and his special uncle, the late Fred W.
