Mr. L. G. Berry, 94, of Trezevant died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Front Street Church of Christ in Milan. Interment will follow in Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the church and also on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service. L G Berry was the first born of Lonnie and Hessie Berry on May 14, 1921 in Crawford Springs, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Berry, brothers Esau, Jacob and J W Berry, and son-in-law Frank Sims. He is survived by his brother James Berry (Doris), daughter Bobbie Sims of Marietta, GA and son Jimmy Berry (Pat) of Jackson, TN and a very special friend, Evelyn Johnson of Trezevant, TN. Granddaughters: Nikki Williams-Leslie (Theron) of Marietta, GA, Whitni Kalman (Joseph) of Marietta, GA, Leigh Berry of Elkridge, MD and Allison Berry of Jackson, TN. Great Grandchildren: Khalib Williams, Kieran Kalman, Nicholas Williams, Kadyn Kalman, Kourtney Kalman and TJ Leslie all of Marietta, GA Neices: LoWanda Berry, Thelma Berry, Babba Stigger (Eugene) and Darlene Berry Nephews: William Berry (Jocelyn), Leroy Berry (Hattie), Warren Berry (Jackie), Dickey Berry, Darnel Berry and Timothy Berry He also leaves a host of great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. L G attended Dry School Elementary and Montgomery High in Lexington, TN. When in school he worked in the shop training on woodwork,where he learned carpentry. When married he built his house. During the first two years out of High School he did farm work, raised chickens, had hives of honey bees and worked at the Milan Arsenal. In 1942 he joined the US Army for 38 months, stationed in Camp Stoneman California and then overseas to Southwest Pacific (World War II). His favorite thing about service was the food and the scenery. In the US Army is where he learned mechanics. He came home to Trezevant and farmed for about one year and went to work at the Milan Arsenal again until 1957 and was layed off. He found employment in Memphis at the Army Depot and commuted home on weekends for 18 years until retirement at age 55 in 1976. After retirement he was busy doing carpentry, plumbing and mechanical work. He especially liked to help the widowed women and would charge a meager fee for his service. He also enjoyed the political arena politics, proudly displaying autographed pictures of the reigning presidential family. He had a love for animals and had his friend Fido and then Buster by his side until their passing and left behind a clowder of cats that he kept fed. A devoted member of The Front Street Church of Christ in Milan,TN. A kind and generous man that loved his family and loved mankind and most importantly loved The Almighty God and would render a sermon to you just about every time he’d talk with you.
