Lillian Tharpe

December 8, 1950 — February 7, 2024

Mrs. Lillian Tharpe, 73, of Mansfield died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at her home.

Services will be held at noon on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at McPhearson-Rawls Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Lillian Inez McWherter Tharpe was born December 8, 1950, to the late Bennie Johnson McWherter and Rosie B. Dunlap-McWherter in Henry County Tennessee.

She was united in holy matrimony to her loving husband Robert Earl Tharpe, Sr. on July 3, 1988. To this union they add two children, Robert Earl Tharpe, Jr. and Shane Tharpe. She received her education at Central High School the class of 1968. Early on she was employed at the Holley Carburetor Plant. After it closed, she stepped out on faith and enrolled at the Drum Cosmetology School in Nashville, TN. After receiving her beautician license, she became the proud owner of The House of Creative Beauty Salon.

She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Barrs Chapel C.M.E. in Como, TN. While there, she served as president of the usher board, missionary society, gospel choir, and class leader. Later, she moved her membership to New Hope Methodist Church in Mansfield, TN.
She loved reading her bible, watching her Christian TV shows, crossword puzzles, and watching Gunsmoke. She also loved helping to raise her nieces and nephews. She would always take time to teach them stories from the bible.

Lillian leaves to cherish her memories her husband; Robert Earl Tharpe, Sr., sons; Robert Earl Tharpe, Jr. and Shane Tharpe, grandchildren; Jada & Ayden Tharpe of Las Vegas, Eric, Gerald, & Avery “Baby Girl” Tharpe of Nashville, TN, and four great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memories are her siblings; Weldon McWherter of Paris, TN, Janice (Joseph) Petty of Mayfield, KY, aunts; Barbara Ann Dunlap Meadows, Willie Mae Dun Janice (Joseph) Petty of Mayfield, KY, aunts; Barbara Ann Dunlap Meadows, Willie Mae Dun lap Giles, special niece; Yolanda (Chester) McWherter Wilson & special nephew; Maurice (Apryl) McWherter (whom she gave them the nickname of “double trouble”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Rosie McWherter, siblings; Karen McWherter Crutchfield, Pamela McWherter Randle, aunts; Betty Lou Dunlap Webb, Mae Ruby Dunlap Mullins, and Lillie Mae McWherter Phelps.
