Lucy Mae (Brooks) Reed, a woman whose life was a testament to faith, family, and generous service, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at the age off 77.
Born on July 11, 1948, in Kenton, TN, to the late Annie and Robert Brooks, Lucy’s roots in the South shaped her character and her legendary cooking. A graduate of Kenton High School, she carried the warmth of her hometown with her wherever life led.
As a young woman, Lucy embarked on an adventure to Saginaw, MI, where she dedicated herself to the caring profession of nursing. Her compassionate spirit later found a home at General Motors, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. Lucy truly loved life and found her greatest pride and joy in her two sons, Terry and Darryl Reed. For years, she was their most ardent supporter, traveling across the country and around the world to cheer them on at basketball games, her presence a constant source of love and encouragement.
Lucy embraced the simple pleasures that make life rich. She served faithfully at St. Paul Baptist Church, and found daily solace and strength in the pages of her Bible. Her retirement years were filled with the things she loved most: lively afternoon’s playing cards with friends and family, preparing magnificent meals that became the heart of every gathering, and creating lasting memories with those she held dear. In her later years, she joyfully returned to her beloved home, Tennessee, to be closer to her family.
Lucy will be forever remembered for her open heart and willing hands—always the first to offer help, a hot meal, or a word of kindness. Her legacy is one of unwavering generosity, deep faith, and a love that made everyone feel like family.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her two sons: Terry (Valarie) Reed of Saginaw, MI, and Darryl Reed of Martin, TN; her twelve grandchildren: Tierra Watkins, Terri Reed, Marquetta Reed, Robert Garcia, A’Dair Noel Reed, D’Arria (Isaac Heyn) Reed, Skylar (Travon Pratt) Reed, Kinnady Reed, Diamond Jones, Todd Jones, Torri (Michael) Green, and Sierra (Robert) Perez; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Carl Ervin (Susanne) Brooks and Gladys Inez Brooks, and her special friends, Sarah Skinner of Kenton, TN, and Josie Couch of Saginaw, MI.
Lucy was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Sue Wyatt and Martha Nell Mance; her brothers, David, Louis, Henry Lee, John Melvin, Eddie Lee, and Robert Brooks; her sister-in-law, Ann Brooks; and her daughter-in-law, Stacy Reed.
Her kindness and joyful spirit will be deeply missed, but the love she planted in the hearts of her family will continue to grow for generations.
A service to celebrate Lucy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at McPhearson-Rawls Funeral Home, located at 1325 E. Main St., Union City, TN 38261.
