Mrs. Magdalene Patterson-Hampton, 74, of Martin died Tuesday, May 3,2022, at her home.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Fuller Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Parham Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Magdalene “Mag” Patterson Hampton was born November 17, 1947, in Magnolia, Mississippi to the late Grover and Julian Patterson. Mag spent her young years in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She began raising her family in Ann Arbor, Michigan prior to relocating to Martin, Tennessee.
Magdalene graduated from Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, Michigan. She continued her education attending Bethel University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Magdalene enjoyed 47 years with her loving husband Lester Henry Hampton. Together they raised Angela Lee and Nicholas Hampton, and step-sons Christopher Hampton and Brian Hampton.
Magdalene was employed at the University of Tennessee, Martin until her retirement.
Along with enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Magdalene treasured her church family and friends. She relished in traveling to new places, visiting her many siblings, gardening, watching timeless Western movies, and always being a jokester creating lots of laughter “LOL”.
She is preceded in death by her parents Grover and Julian Patterson; eight siblings Nathaniel Patterson, Herbert Patterson, Alva Patterson, Roy Patterson, Patsy Lynn Patterson, Joe Ann Smith, Beverly Celestine and Tangel Patterson.
Our sweet Magdalene leaves her devoted husband Lester Henry “Butch” Hampton to cherish wonderful memories; two loving children Angela Lee and Nicholas Hampton; two step-sons Christopher Hampton and Brian Hampton; four siblings Geneva Brown, Ray Patterson, Gregory (Regina) Patterson and Randy (Roxanne) Patterson; four sisters-in-law Dorothy Patterson, Florene Patterson, Ruby Patterson, Donna Hawkins; two brothers-in-law Samuel Smith and Hodges Celestine; seven grandchildren, Danyell Browning, Deona Houston, Jaeda Hampton, Antonio Hampton, Chase Hampton, Dameisha Hampton and Luci Hampton; one great-grandchild Jayden Houston; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
