April 22, 1936 — February 9, 2016

Mrs. Margie Mae Mosley, 79, of Union City died Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Services will be held at noon on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. A.E. McCadney officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Margie Mae Mosley “Gan Gan” was born April 22, 1936 to the late James Thomas “Jimmy”Murphy and Earline Pearson Murphy. She was a 1954 graduate of Miles High School where she was the Valedictorian. She was known as an All-State Basketball player for the Miles High Tigerettes. She was a member of the Glee-Club under the direction of V.J. Caldwell. Later years she served on the Miles High Alumni Committee. She was a dedicated & devoted member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where over the years she served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Pastor’s Aid Committee, the Yearly Tea Committee and assisted with the financial recordings of Annual Days. She retired from Kinkead Ind. After 31 years of service. She was the first African American Woman to be hired. She was married to Cletus Willis “C.W.” Mosley on April 22, 1964. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2007. She leaves to cherish her memory three children Judy ( Godfrey) Jones, Robin Phelps, and James (Michelle) Mosley all of Union City, TN.; one grandson Brian (Tracey) Williams of Union City, TN who was raised in her household as a son, one niece Karen Murphy of Decatur, GA who was more like her daughter; one sister Bettie Murphy of Union City, TN; seven sister-in-laws, Jean (Willis) Alexander of Union City, TN, Marie Turner and Pearlie (Kenny) Wiggins both of Nashville, TN, Pam (Tony) Davis , Flora Ann Freeman and Rozalyn Mosley all of Union City, TN and Regina Pitt of Portsmouth, VA; five brother-in-laws, Michael (Jodene) Mosley of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Danny (Myra) Mosley of Union City, TN, Eddie Wayne (Nel) Mosley of Temple, TX, Tony Mosley of Union City, TN and Billy (Peggy) Bransford of South Fulton, TN. Eight grandchildren; Rynara Murphy of Nashville, TN, Myra Phelps, Marlena Williams, Michelle Phelps, Greg Phelps, Shayla Mosley, Jalyn Mosley, and Noah Mosley of Union City, TN; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters Willie Mae Barr, and Margieree Williams and a brother James Thomas Murphy.
