Marilyn Jerome Cole-Douglas was born on December 19, 1955, in Alamo, Tennessee, to the Christian lineage of the late Ivory Lee Cole Sr. and Johnnie Maron Cole. She was the second of four children born to this union. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her eldest sister Melba Donnette Halton and a niece Donninya Halton.
Marilyn was raised by God Fearing Parents in Alamo, Tennessee, that taught her Christianity did not exempt one from death, but that it ensured triumph over it. With this instilled in Marilyn at an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Personal Savior at a tender age at Lincoln Street First Baptist Church. Throughout her life she served the church in many capacities including singing in the Choir, serving on the Usher Board and serving with the Hospitality Committee.
Marilyn was educated in Alamo at Central High and Alamo High School. In school Marilyn was a Majorette and she enjoyed Home Economics. Throughout this time Marilyn formed lasting friendships with “sisters” and “brothers” who stood by her throughout life and into death.
Marilyn was a lover of life; she enjoyed traveling, cooking and entertaining. She had the opportunity to explore what life had to offer by living in different places during her life, making new friends and learning new trades along the way. But no matter where life took her, Marilyn always found her a church home wherever she was.
One of Marilyn’s proudest accomplishments in this life was that of being a loving mother to her three children. She worked exceedingly hard to provide for her girls, instilling in them independence, strength, and perseverance. She taught them that through God, all things were possible, and that God was only a prayer away. As her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born, they casted a light in Marilyn’s eyes that no one could begin to dim. They were the joy of her life and she spoke of them highly, often and always with a smile.
In 2011, Marilyn reunited with her teenage love Perry Douglas after both of them being widowed. On February 14, 2014, the two of them were united in marriage. They made their home filled with love, friendship and adventure in Union City, TN. There Marilyn worked for Tyson Foods and attended church at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church until her death.
