He was born in Evanston on May 24, 1993, to Manolita Phillips and Melvin Barnett, Jr.
Marquis professed his hope in Christ at an early age and began his journey at Friendship Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois. He enjoyed writing music and cutting hair. But his greatest joy was preparing gourmet burgers for family and friends.
Before graduating in Georgia, he attended elementary and some of his high school years in Evanston. He later attended Barber School to master “lit” cuts for family and friends.
Marquis’ earthly passion was creating delicious recipes. He loved to cook, put his spin on burgers, and see others enjoy his creations. Marquis shared his culinary skills in Evanston restaurants, where he was allowed to demonstrate the extent of his culinary skills.
Marquis was preceded in death by his grandfather, Melvin Barnett. He leaves to cherish his memories his father, Melvin Barnett, Jr; his mother, Manolita Phillips; his Stepfather, Nick Phillips; one brother, Nick Phillips, Jr; his grandfather, Anel Saint Victor (Florida) and grandmother, Mother Ruthie Barnett (South Fulton, TN); six aunts, Michelle Coleman, Sylvia Daniels, Patricia Wiley, and Darlene Cross, Susie Saint Victor, Menege Saint Victor, five uncles, Wess Saint Victor, Tyrone Coleman, Robert Sneed, Perry Thomas Sneed and Michael Sneed and a host of relatives, cousins, and friends.
