Mrs. Mattie Elnora (Fisher) Avery, 79, of Tiptonville died Friday, August 3, 2012, at her residence.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at St. John #3 Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Burnett officiating. Interment will follow in Citizens Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
She was born in Tiptonville, Tennessee on April 19, 1933, to Allie D. and Christine (Cross) Fisher. She married for 58 years to James H. Avery. She was the oldest member living of St. John # 3 Missionary Baptist Church and retired from the Lake County School System.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Tevin M. Avery; a great granddaughter, Amaya S. Avery Simmons, two brothers, Henry Claud Fisher and Harvey Fisher; three sisters, Rose Brown, Elizabeth Fisher and Eunice Dyson; a daughter-in-law, Leither V. Avery; two brothers-in-law, Ben H. Avery and Charles Chatman and a sister-in-law Mary V. Chatman.
She leaves to mourn her passing nine children, Charles Fisher, James Robert (Linda) Avery, Linda Avery (Henry) Clay, Wanda Avery Smith, Patty Avery Scates, Bryan Keith ( Rhonda) Avery, Veronica Avery Cadney, Kevin Ray Avery and Jerri Michelle Avery; two sisters Christine Jackson and Cora Allen; a sister-in-law, Will Ann Avery; twenty grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
