Mrs. Maxine Marie Reaves, 75, of Union City died Monday, July 31, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Greater Victory Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday at the church.
After seventy-five years of life the Lord called Maxine Reaves home to rest on July 31st, 2023. She was born January 7th, 1948 to the late Odelia Currie Allen and the late Brady Barr Allen in Humboldt, Tennessee where she grew up and went to Stigall Elementary/High School. She completed her education at Stigall High school graduating in 1967.
After graduation she moved to Union City, TN where she married John Edward Johnson Sr. from Union City, where they had three sons: John Johnson Jr., Wendell Johnson, and Keith Johnson.
Maxine worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, TN for several years. Later on in her career she began working for the Kohler Company in Union City. While working at Kohler she formed a friendship with Gregory Reaves and they were later married on September 3, 2011.
Maxine was a very active member of her community and faithful member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. She served as a Mother of the Church and a Missionary. She was the overseer of the "Clothing Give Away" and sang in the Senior Choir; she also frequently visited the sick in nursing homes as well as people at home that were sick.
She had a very kind and loving heart helping people with every opportunity that presented itself. She was a devoted follower of Christ, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Ray Allen and sister Frankie Reed.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, husband Gregory Reaves; her three sons: John Johnson Jr, of Nashville, TN, Wendell Johnson of St Paul Minnesota and Keith Johnson of Erie, Pennsylvania; one sister, Shirley Graves of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren: Tyquis Johnson, Tasharea Johnson, Keithen Johnson, Esdras Ben Israel, Markeith Payne Sr., Jaiden Lawrence, Kajanay Henderson. She also had 4 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and special friends: Julia Johnson, Marquetta Boykin, Constance Ridley, Faye Cross.
