Mr. Nathan Wilkins, 73, of Union City died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Brown Chapel AME Church with Rev. Clay Holiday officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Nathan Herman Wilkins came into this world March 4, 1940, in Rutherford, Tennessee. He was the first child born to the union of Herman and Emily Wilkins. Nathan was a loving, strong, independent man. He loved his wife dearly and loved his children and grandchildren as well. Nathan accepted Christ at an early age and he loved the
Lord. He joined Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Union City, Tennessee in 1985.
Nathan married Sue H. Young of Kenton, Tennessee, March 2, 1960. To this union they had three children, Billy, Dwayne and Cindy Sue Wilkins. His companion was a
devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She stayed by his side until death parted them.
Nathan and Sue made their home in Union City, Tennessee. Nathan was a dedicated employee of Green Acres Mobile Homes for fifty-three years and loved every
minute of it.
Nathan was dedicated to his church, family and the community. He was a very strong individual in the church, home and on the job. In the church, he was a Steward,
President of the Trustee Board, member of the Finance Committee and sang in the Male Chorus.
Nathan loved his only daughter, his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. They called him “Jack Of All Trades” because they thought he could do and make anything possible. He was also known as “Papa”, “Puppy”, “Dad”, “Daddy”, “Honey” and “Sweetheart”
Thursday evening, June 27, 2013, Nathan’s life journey came to an end. God was looking for a true soldier and chose Nathan to come home with Him. He lived a good, happy life with his family and was ready to accept God’s calling.
Nathan’s Legacy will continue to live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brother, family and friends. He leaves to mourn his wife, Sue Helen Wilkins of Union City, Tennessee; two sons, Billy (Angie) Wilkins of Cordova, Tennessee and his “Boss”, Dwayne Wilkins of Union City, Tennessee; one daughter, Cindy Wilkins of Brownsville, Tennessee; two sisters and one brother, Tessa (Earnest) Roach, Linda Wilkins and John Wilkins, all of Rutherford, Tennessee. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Herman Wilkins; his mother, Emily Wilkins; a brother, Thomas Wilkins and a sister, Johnnie Lee Skinner
