Written by me…to be finished at my death.
I’m just a sinner saved by grace.
The life I’ve lived has spoken for me. My record is on high. Nothing can be done or said now to take away or add to it.
You here at Fuller Street or even in Martin may not remember the date of my birth or where I was born but those in Springfield (Robertson County) may remember I was born July 17, 1930, to loving parents, the late Jacob C and Cherry Cavitt Morton. I was the youngest of nine children. All of my siblings preceded me in death.
I received my formal education at Bransford High School in Springfield, TN and continued my education at the University of TN at Martin. I graduated in the first RN class and received a second B.S. degree in social work at the same university.
At an early age I attended White’s Chapel CME in Springfield. I joined McCabe Temple Methodist Church in Martin, TN, later. I moved my membership to Progressive Baptist Church and in 2002 moved my membership to Fuller Street Baptist Church in Dresden, TN.
I was united to my late husband James Leroy McDonald in September 1950. God has blessed us with six children, three preceded me in death.
I haven’t been perfect. I’ve made many mistakes, but I hope I will be remembered with good thoughts and precious memories. Please remember how I loved and delighted in my family, especially my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I hope you young children will remember I tried to live the things I taught. There has never been too much to do for Christ since dedicating my life to His service. There was great joy in serving the Lord.
Those left to cherish my memory are: one son James Leroy McDonald (Penny), two daughters Darlene Patton (Tim) and Dierdre Scott (Rayll), thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Be ye ready saith the Lord, so let it be resolved this day, I took Him at His word.
I Am Ready.
