Mr. Raymond Allen Jenkins, 72, of Union City died Friday, June 30, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Services will be held at noon on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Greater Bethel Church of God In Christ. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
He was born October 19, 1950, to Bernice and Ual “Coley” Jenkins of Rives Tennessee. Raymond crossed Jordan River to meet his Lord and family on the evening of June 30, 2023, at the age of 72.
Raymond graduated from Obion County Central High School in 1968. He then attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas where he ran track and completed his Associate Degree in Education in 1970.
Raymond was employed at Reelfoot Packing Company for 10 years and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 30 years of service of building tires. While at Goodyear he only two days of work out of the 30 years. Upon his retirement Raymond spent time with his grandchildren and wife
In Summer 1966, Raymond met his sweetheart Rinda Smith at a church event in Cayce, Kentucky. They dated all through high school and were married on December 26, 1970. In 1972, they gave birth to twins, Raymond, Jr. and Rhonda. In 1973, they gave birth to Reggie. In 2009, they increased their family by adding Tyreke to the family.
Throughout his life, Raymond expressed his love for God, his family and friends. Raymond was a deacon at Bashon Baptist Chruch in Rives, TN. and the Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. During his fellowship, Raymond developed a strong bond in Christ with the Pastor, Rozelle Dostry where they became lifelong brothers in Christ.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Ual and Bernice Jenkins. He is survived by Rinda Jenkins, his wife of 58 years including 52 of married, Raymond Jenkins Jr. and his husband, Aryo Hasnugung both of Nashville, TN., Rhonda Lovett (Conway Arkansas), Reggie Jenkins of Fulton, Kentucky and Tyreke Jenkins of Union City, TN. He also had 6 grandchildren: Jeddiah Jenkins, Silas Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, Saniya Jenkins, Chace Jenkins (all of Union City, TN) and Zorinda Lovett of Conway Arkansas. Raymond was also survived by Eurlene Jenkins of Detroit, Michigan; Perry Jenkins and his wife Geraldine of Rives, TN; Paul Jenkins and his wife Ann of Rives, TN; Nora Jean Nichols and her husband Charles; Sherry Davis and Deborah Jenkins of Rives, TN. Meosha Smith of Detroit, Michigan. Amanda Jenkins is his daughter-in-law of Union City, TN. He is also survived by a big host of Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews.
