He was born on October 17, 1944, “Big Reggie” was a pillar of his community whose life was defined by service-to his country, his family and his God. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the United States Army, embodying the bravery and discipline of the airborne spirit throughout his life. Following his military service, Reggie dedicated his professional life to Goodyear from where he retired as a skilled tire builder.
A true family man, Reggie was the father of seven but he was the father figure of many that extended beyond his children, offering wisdom and a warm welcome to anyone. A master at the grill and a natural entertainer, he believed that a shared meal was a good way to show love. Whether it was a backyard barbecue or a spontaneous gathering, Reggie brought people together with his laughter, wit, smile, good food and a servant’s heart.
Reggie found great joy in serving the Lord. As a dedicated church member and long time song leader, his voice was a source of comfort and inspiration. As a hard fighting soldier, he used his last breath to say “Thank You Lord”.
Reggie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Copper, one sister, Joyce Copper, three sons, Reginald Von Copper, Jr, Kendrick Copper and Sean Copper; two daughters Jacqueline Copper and Regina Copper Carter; 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; aunt, Doris Powell; uncle, James Berry and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen and Ollie Copper, three siblings, James, Bertin and Bertina Copper and two children, Derrick Cooper and Nasario Copper.
