Rev. Eugene Coleman, 92, of Union City died Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Greater Victory Freewill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Eugene Coleman was born on February 13, 1929 in Woodland Mills, Tennessee to Viola Crayton Coleman and Lushion Coleman. Eugene attended Obion County Public Schools, entered the United States Air Force and upon discharge became a licensed professional barber.
Eugene was called into the ministry and pastored for over 60 years. Eugene ended his pastoral ministry at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church. Eugene had a passion for singing and sung in a quartet during his younger years. He was a strong advocate for the community and strived to help as many people as he could through individual support, participating on boards and in various community activities.
Eugene had six siblings: Herschel Coleman, Hurley Coleman, Ellar M. Tate, Berthener Coleman, Larsena Wilks and Lula Wilks all who preceded him in death.
To cherish his memory, Eugene leaves his wife, Shirley Brooks Coleman of 47 years. Prior to their union, Eugene had eight children:
Ronnie Warlick, (Pat) of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Willie T. Coleman, Eugene Coleman, Howard Coleman and Linda Brown (Albert) all of Saginaw, Michigan, Fernisha Guiden and Jeffrey Massey, both of South Bend, Indiana and Pamela Coleman Sessions of Nashville, Tennessee and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
