Rev. John Melvin Brooks, Sr.

Rev. John Melvin Brooks, Sr., 71, of Union City formerly of Kenton died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Rev. Brooks was the pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Union City. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Kenton and interment will follow in Westside Cemetery in Kenton. The Rev. Corey Brooks will officiate and the family will receive friends this evening from 6-9 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Union City and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of services at St. Paul’s. He was born June 6, 1941, in Kenton, son of the late Robert and Annie (Banks) Brooks. He was a graduate of the former Rosenwald High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a retired employee of the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he worked for 33 years, and he owned a lawn and tree service. He had been married to the former Martha Grice, who died Aug. 7, 2010. He is survived by his seven children and his daughters-in-law, John Brooks Jr., Eric and Barbara Brooks, Teresa Brooks, Regina King, Victor and Artracia Eskew, Tracey and Leigh Anne White and Michelle Cassey ; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Martha and Rozell Mance, Lucy Reed, Evelyn and Oliver Wyatt and Inez Baucom; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Cathy Brooks and Carl and Suzanne Brooks; and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
