FUNERAL SERVICE UPDATE: Services have been moved to QUINN CHAPEL AME CHURCH 218 Church Street, Paris, TN.

Rev. William Arthur Crutchfield, 72, of Paris died Thursday, January 4, 2024, at AHC Paris.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Quinn Chapel AME Church. Interment will follow in Barrs Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Rev. William Arthur Crutchfield was born to the late William T. and Zora B. Crutchfield on October 28, 1951, in Weakley County, Tennessee. William began his formal education at Barrs Chapel CME Church School in Como, Tennessee and graduated from Central High School, Paris Tennessee in 1969. From there he completed a certificate program at a Paducah Kentucky Vocational School. William went on to serve in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

In 1978 William married Karen McWherter and together they raised a son Maurice McWherter. They were together until Karen’s untimely death. On June 16, 2006. William united in marriage with Cathy Combs.

William was baptized at Barrs Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Como, Tennessee. After being nurtured in the faith, William accepted Christ as his Savior and was active in the life and membership of Barrs Chapel. Later William accepted the call to preach and was ordained Elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME) and served as a Preacher in Full Connection. William served as pastor of St. James CME Church, Erin Tennessee; Dortch’s Chapel CME Church, Erin Tennessee; Friendship CME Church, Camden, Tennessee and at the time of his death was serving Allen Temple CME Church in Paris, Tennessee.

William worked forty years at Tecumseh Manufacturing in Paris, Tennessee. William was a hardworking man who at one time delivered pizzas to provide for his family.

On January 4, 2024, Rev. William Arthur Crutchfield transitioned from the Church militant to the Church triumphant. He was preceded in death by his father William T. Crutchfield, his mother Zora B. Crutchfield, his previous wife Karen McWherter Crutchfield, his sister Lurlie M. Crutchfield, his sister Connie Lane, and his nephew Carmichael (Little Mike) Crutchfield.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his time on earth, his devoted wife Cathy Crutchfield of Paris Tennessee; his son Maurice (Apryl) McWherter of Murray, Kentucky; his grandson Benjamin McWherter; his brothers Carmichael (Freda) Crutchfield of Cordova, Tennessee; Paul Crutchfield of Paris, Tennessee; Travis (Delois) Crutchfield of Bartlett, Tennessee; and his sister Donnie Alexander of Huntsville, Alabama. Also, he leaves a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
