Mr. Robert H. Williamson, 77, of McKenzie died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at noon on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Greater Enon Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Christopher Johnson officiating.
Robert Henry Williamson was born November 28, 1938 in Somerville, Tennessee unto his parents Arthur Williamson, Sr. and Anna Brown, formerly Inell Williamson. At age 78, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 28, 2016. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised by his mother, Robert began working at an early age. At the age of 12, Robert’s first job was a grocery bagger and deliverer for a local market. He proudly proclaimed this as the beginning of him establishing strong work ethics as a skilled tradesman, entrepreneur and Pastor.
Robert moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1964 to work with his father and brother, Arthur Williamson, Jr., in the factory of the auto industry. However, Robert knew his life was not in the factory; a fact he constantly reminded his father. Robert soon moved on to becoming a master journeyman to work for the esteemed Turner Brooks Construction Co. Later, he would establish his own construction company, VanDyke Carpet & Tile.
Robert always had a love for the word of God and singing gospel music. In the early 1970s, he joined his first gospel group as a singer with The Quartets. This path redefined his life to a life of ministry. Robert attended Marygrove College in Detroit, MI and became certified in Theology. Over the course of 25 years, he was a Senior Pastor for several churches in Memphis, TN and Detroit, MI. He also was a great choir director.
Robert loved to be stylish and travel. However, his favorite pastime was enjoying good food. He loved going to the movies, watching football and fussing about politics. He was forever a dreamer and always hopeful for a better tomorrow.
Upon relocating to McKenzie, Tennessee in 2006, his continued hope was evident in joining the Webb Brothers. He loved being a member of the Webb Brother for the last 8 years of his life. He was excited to continue singing and spreading the gospel. More recently, he was elated about being in the studio recording their album.
In the final months of his life, the Lord was giving Robert new music in his heart. He was excited to wake up and write down the lyrics and record the melodies. He loved waking up each morning reading daily devotions and had prayer every day at noon.
Through failure and success, joy and pain, health and sickness, marriage and divorce, life and death, Robert’s life journey was always with Jesus Christ. He is now living in victory in the eternal kingdom of God Almighty!
