Mrs. Ruby Dinwiddie, 89, of Martin died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Tennova Volunteer Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at McCabe United Methodist Church with Rev. Orrin Cowley officiating. Interment will follow in Parham Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Ruby Dinwiddie was born on June 28, 1926, in Martin, Tennessee. She was the daughter to the late Frances “Fannie” Elizabeth Caton Crockett and the late John Esley Crockett. To this union, thirteen children were born. She was united in holy matrimony to Aaron Alloyd Dinwiddie and to this union two children were born.
Early in life, she professed a belief in Jesus Christ and became a dedicated member of McCabe United Methodist Church. She was a committed communion stewardess and worked faithfully until her health failed.
She received her high school education from Weakley County Training School in Martin, Tennessee in 1945.She later worked at Weakley County Training School,which was famous for “Rodeo Hash”, and the University ofTennessee at Martin, where she retired after nineteen years of service. She enjoyed her retirement and her passion was visiting others who were confined in nursing homes. At eighty-five years of age, she was still mowing(and supervised us if she allowed one of us to mow),cutting her hedges and “rakin’ those leaves, pullin’ up weeds on her hands and knees”; always in the yard.
Preceded in death were her siblings, John Edward,Rebecca, George Walter “GW”, Arie Lee and Frank Edward (seven died at birth) and nephews, Edward J.Crockett “Junior” and Frank Polk “Butch”.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Arie Laverne Dinwiddie and Elizabeth Ann Dinwiddie; two grandsons, Byron Alloyd Phelps and Solomon Dwayne Clay; great grandsons, Chyron Tyrell Phelps and Solomon Armani Clay; a devoted great nephew, Edwin Crockett and sons, Chris Crockett and Derek Crockett; a dear friend,Ida Royster and a host of other relatives and friends.
