Sarah Josephine Alford, affectionately called “Jophine” was born July 14, 1936, to Joe and Vina Mae Ross in Cayce Kentucky.

“Josephine” accepted Christ at an early age at Christ Church Holiness of Hickman, Kentucky. She graduated from Riverview High School of Hickman, KY. Josephine lived her young adult life in Elmira, New York. She united in holy matrimony to Willie B. Alford.

She was employed by Fulton Hospital, Parkway Hospital and later worked as a CNA at Haws Nursing Home. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Mother. While she was usually quiet, she proudly recalled some of her proudest moments-being a majorette in high school and being crowned winner of a beauty contest. In her later years, she enjoyed cooking, babysitting (spoiling rotten children in the family) and serving the Lord.

Sarah “Jophine” Alford loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alford; a daughter, Christine Walls; and a son: Stanley Alford . She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters: Freida Bullard, Atlanta, Georgia, Rev. Kimberly Alford Traylor, Fulton, Kentucky and Melvina Palmer, Atlanta, Georgia and two sons Willie Alford, Fulton, Kentucky and Glen Gaylon Alford (Angela), Fayetteville, NC; five grandchildren: Angela Alford Sapp (Tim), Jessica Traylor, Jennifer Alford, Joshua Traylor and Derrick Palmer; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, special cousins, Marshall Alexander, Greg Alexander and Pastor Earl and Octavia Holsborough, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; three sisters: Eula B. Alexander, Mattie Mae Ross, Jennevy McCoy, eight brothers: Nathan Ross, Edward Ross, Williams Ross, Wardell Ross, Walter Ross, Charles Junior Ross, Eron Ross and Calvin Ross. “Jophine” will be greatly missed as we continue to celebrate life.
