Ms. Valerie Hillsman, 61, of Milan died Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at New Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Valerie Hillsman, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend was born on June 28, 1964, in McKenzie, TN.
Valerie was known throughout the community for her strong personality, honesty, and unmistakable presence. Her heart was filled with love for her family and friends. She cared deeply for the people in her life and found joy in spending time with those she loved. Her presence brought laughter, conversation, and lasting memories that will be treasured for years to come.
She was a faithful member of New Reedy Creek MBC where she was a devoted Sunday school attendee, sung in the choir, and enjoyed working with the ladies of the kitchen committee.
Valerie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Vicki) Vonner Hillsman; maternal grand-father, Willie Vonner Sr., maternal grand-mother, Jennie Burns Vonner; paternal grandfather, Virdell Hillsman; paternal grandmother, Tanzy Jordan Hillsman, and her beloved nephew, Decarlos Hillsman. She was also preceded in death by 3 paternal aunts and 6 paternal uncles; as well as 4 maternal aunts and 5 maternal uncles.
Valerie leaves to cherish her precious memories her father, Judson Hillsman of Milan, TN; brothers, Jeffery (Anita) Hillsman of Nashville, TN and Gregory Hillsman of Milan, TN; nieces, Brittany Hillsman of Atlanta, GA and Alasha Hillsman of Murfreesboro, TN; nephews, Brandon (Amanda) Hillsman of Nashville, TN and Cameron Hillsman of Nashville, TN; great-nieces, Jaiyda of Atlanta, GA, Malaysia, Bailee and Royalty of Nashville, TN; and great-nephews, Christopher of Atlanta, GA and DeCarlos Jr. of Nashville, TN. Aunts: Joyce (J.B.) Smith of Buffalo, NY and Joyce Pate of Chicago, IL. Uncles: Daniel Hillsman Sr. of Greenville, SC and William (Betty) Hillsman of Chicago, IL. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and members of the community whose lives she touched in her own unique way.
Valerie's legacy is one of authenticity, strength, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on through the family and friends she loved and the countless lives she touched.
