Mrs. Verdie Mae McCullough, 90, of McLemoresville died Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022, at the church and also on Tuesday from noon until the time of service.
Verdie Mae Taylor McCullough was born August 20, 1932, to the late Geneva Williamson and Wardell Taylor. She was preceded in death by three siblings. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of the Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church in McLemoresville, TN. She was a faithful member until her death. She was president of the usher board, vice president of the missionary society, treasurer of the poor saint’s benevolent fund, and Sunday school teacher of the children whom she loved. Her motto in life was: ‘’The life you live may be the only bible someone reads.”
She was a graduate of Webb High School and St. Louis Business College. She was an active member of the Carroll County NAACP, West Carroll Webb Alumni Association, Carroll County Democratic Women, and the Carroll County Democratic Party. She served on the advisory board of the Northwest TN Area Agency on Aging and Disability and the Carroll County Office on Aging and many other boards.
She retired as the coordinator for the Carroll County Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She had previously worked at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant and at Kuhn’s Department store in Huntingdon. She and her late husband enjoyed raising two gardens where they could bless their family and the community. She also loved canning, baking pecan and strawberry pies, peanut butter cookies, pear and peach cobblers and other southern dishes.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lonnie Nathaniel McCullough and to this union five daughters were born.
She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters: LaVerdia McCullough and Psyanita Elmore, Nashville, TN, Anna (Earl) Linton, Woodbridge, VA, Jeruna (Reggie) Cozart, McLemoresville, TN, Natalie (Bernard) Porter Atwood TN. Six grandchildren: Natasha (Larry) Sharpe, Nathan Elmore, Jarrod (Alex) Darnes, Bryan Linton, Cassidy Cozart, and Annalise Porter. Seven greatgrandchildren: Alijah Darnes, Camilla Jenkins, Raelyn and Kameron Darnes, Larry and Leanna Sharpe, and Ezra Elmore, one niece, Joanna (Thomas) Nell, two nephews, Dr. Reginald (Richlyn) Bigham and Richard (Linda) Adkisson, one sister-in-law and a host of other relatives of friends.
