Vivian Helen Hubbard

July 24, 1929 — January 31, 2015

Mrs. Vivian Helen Hubbard, 85, of Fulton died Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Martin Health Care. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, at Rawls Funeral Home Chapel in South Fulton with Pastor Malcom Mathis I officiating. Vivian Helen Hubbard was born July 24, 1929 in Fulton, Kentucky to the union of Lon and Geraldine Martin, who both preceded her in death. She was the eighth of twelve children. Eight of her brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. Vivian remained in Fulton until she was 14 years old when she was then sent to St. Louis, Missouri to live with her uncle. Once in St. Louis, Vivian attended the St. Louis Public School system, and she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior during her young adulthood. Around age 22, she met William Hubbard Jr., who also preceded her in death on November 24, 1981. To this union no children were born but they adopted one son, Donald Twiggs, in November 1960. In 1958, she visited her family in Fulton and worked picking cotton with her brother Horace Martin for a week, but while in St. Louis, Vivian worked as a waitress on Slay’s Riverboat. Then in 1971, she started working at St. John’s Mercy Hospital as a Certified Nurse Assistant until 1983 when she moved back to Fulton and stayed with her sister, Joan, for a while before getting her own place. In April 1996, Vivian moved back to St. Louis and lived with her son, Donald, and his wife Brenda, until July 2000 when she moved to Kansas to live with Joan who had moved to Kansas by then. She stayed there until Joan’s passing in 2003 at which time she moved back to Fulton. Between 2003 and 2006, she was back and forth between Fulton and St. Louis until 2007 when she was admitted into the Martin Healthcare Facility where she stayed until her death. While in St. Louis, Vivian joined the Saints of God Missionary Baptist Church in Hazelwood, Missouri under the leadership of Malcom B. Mathis I on October 12, 2003 and joined the Pastor’s Aid Ministry. Vivian was called to be with the Lord Jesus at 3:40 am on Saturday, January 31, 2015. Vivian leaves to cherish her memory her son, Donald (Brenda) Twiggs of St. Louis, MO, one grandson, Joshua Twiggs (13 years old) of St. Louis, MO, three brothers Lon Martin of South Fulton, TN, Major (Argona) Martin of South Fulton, TN, and Horace (Louise) Martin of Fulton, KY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
