Wanda Fields

Mrs. Wanda Faye Fields, 70, of Martin died Thursday, July 6, 2023, at her home.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, at McCabe United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. The Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega Service will begin at noon on Friday.

Wanda Faye Rogers Fields was born on May 5, 1953, in Gibson County, to Virginia Stewart Rogers and Archie D. Rogers who preceded her in death. Wanda was an extraordinary woman of God. She was a faithful member of McCabe Temple United Methodist Church where she served until her health began failed. She was the Lay Leader, Financial Secretary of the UMW, and a soulful member of the Spirits of Love choir. When she sang, you could feel the presence of the Lord. Wanda’s many deeds of kindness, and generosity are immeasurable. She was a courageous, faithful, devoted, and loving Christian lady.

Wanda was an educator at heart and encouraged everyone to do their best whatever their career choice was. She graduated from Dyer High School in 1971, attended Newbern Vocational School in Newbern, TN where she received her Secretarial Science Degree in 1974. In June 1982 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from the University of Tennessee at Martin. On April 18, 2008 Wanda and her three line sisters became proud members of the first line of the newly chartered Martin TN Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as Tha Four First Class Forces of Fortitude and she was the ACE affectionately named “THA GENERAL”.

Wanda’s career in business was astounding. She began as a cashier at Fred’s and also at Ashley’s Outlet, Accounts Payable Clerk at Kellwood Company, Retail Assistant Manager at Wal-Mart and Transcript Coordinator at UT Martin. She then became employed at Good Year Tire and Rubber Company from February 1984 until June 2008. She served as supervisor of manufacturing, QS5000 Coordinator where she coordinated activities for the certification to the QS5000 Quality Systems. She wrote and tracked grants, trained employees to do job assignments, issued certifications on quality production safety. She interviewed, directed and managed the training activities for employees for the entire plant of 2,500 people. After retiring from Goodyear, Wanda began working for the Weakley County School System as the secretary and bookkeeper at Martin Primary School in July of 2009- December 14, 2021.  During this period she trained other secretaries throughout the county in bookkeeping skills. Her money management and bookkeeping abilities were impeccable. She loved to travel and shop. The operators at HSN and QVC probably knew her voice personally.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Archie D. Rogers and Virginia Stewart Rogers, maternal grandparents: Lucy Lee Cartrell Stewart and Christopher Columbus Stewart, paternal grandparents: Harriet Washington Rogers and George Tom Rogers. A brother Mitcha Rogers, stepsister Jocelyn Davis, stepbrother Claude Davis, Jr., sisters-in-law Linda Brandon and Polly Ann Avery, brothers-in-law Ervin Fields, Wesley Williams and Eliza.

Wanda leaves to cherish her memory, her loving & devoted husband of 40 years Wayne Fields, her pride, son Christopher Tyrone Brown (Anikke) Martin, TN, the joys of her life, her grandsons, Christopher Destion Brown Davis (Birmingham, AL), Markei Deshan Skinner (Martin, TN), Christopher Tyrone Brown, Jr. (Atlanta, GA), and Miles Christopher Brown (Martin, TN)  great grandson, Christopher Destion Brown Davis, Jr. (Birmingham, AL), brothers Archie D. Rogers Jr., Johnny Ray Rogers (Cathey), sister Monte Kaye Rogers (Ned), stepsisters Penny Watson, Vickie Cook (John), Sharon Davis, stepbrother Ernest Woods (Gloria), sisters-in-law Avery Nell Pollard, Cleola Greer, Brenda Williams, Dianne Fields and Michelle Cathey.
