Mr. Odie Louis “Gus” Steward, 94, of Union City died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his residence.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Brown Chapel AME Church with Rev. Clay Holiday will be officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
He was born in Rives, Tennessee on December 18, 1919, to the late Odie and Alma Holmes Steward.
He was a faithful member of Brown Chapel A. M. E. Church, serving as trustee. He was a patient and loving father and grandfather. He cherished his family with every fiber of his being. He was an industrious worker for Moore Produce Company for fifteen years as a semitruck driver. He also worked for Cultra Landscaping for over fifty years, having been a supervisor. His work can be seen up and down the interstates in West, Middle and East Tennessee.He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories two daughters, Bettye Steward Hilliard of South Fulton, Tennessee and Queen Steward of Union City, Tennessee; one daughter-in-law, Katie Steward of Union City, Tennessee; three sons, Paul Steward of Elkart, Indiana and Billy Steward and Michael Steward, both of Union City, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Mary Edna Steward; one grandson, Patrick Steward; five sisters, Bertha Blackwell, Daisy Rogers, Louella Bass, Darnella Johnson and Ruth Bugg and three brothers, Will Steward, Lexie Steward and Cornell Steward.
