Quanddus Jamail VanDyke, 49, of Union City died Friday, October 20, 2023, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at McPhearson-Rawls Funeral Home.
He was born in Jackson, Michigan on May 1, 1974, to the late Shelia Marie VanDyke and the late William Lynn VanDyke.
Jamail attended Jackson Public Schools until the family moved to Union City, TN in 1982. He then attended Union City Public Schools and received his diploma from Union City High School Class of 1993. He furthered his education by moving back to Michigan and enrolled in Lansing Community College to study automotive technology. He also attended Tennessee College of Applied Technology where he received several certificates in the area of electronics and was certified. Jamail also was a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
Jamail’s working career began in Lansing Michigan shortly after graduating from high school. He was a sales assistant at Value City Department Store until he decided to move back to Union City. Upon his return, he was hired by Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company and worked there eleven years and held various jobs within the company. Once Goodyear Company closed their facility in Union City, he was hired by Unilever as a line technician. Jamail wanted to work closer to home, so he was able to secure employment with Insteel Industries, his present employer. He was a role model, dedicated and loyal employee with five years of service.
Jamail enjoyed being around family and friends. He was extremely family oriented and never hesitated to assist in the care of his parents and brother. Although, he was large in statue, he was a gentle soul with a beautiful smile. He seldom met a stranger as he was regarded as a respectful, well-mannered and caring young man.
Jamail leaves loving and lasting memories to his brother, Abdul Vandyke of Union City TN.; sister, Elizabeth Belew of Lansing MI.; aunts, Wilma L. (Jeverson) Kelley of Lansing MI., Patricia Brown, Rochelle VanDyke, Robbie Griffin, Dorothy Smith and Bertha Smith of Jackson MI., Pam Sherrod-Smith and Edna Sherrod of Minneapolis, MN; uncles, Benjamin VanDyke of Lansing MI., Cecil (Sally) VanDyke of Jackson MI., Gary (Pinky) Sherrod of Minneapolis MN., Larry Sherrod and Charles (Alberta) Arnold of Jackson MI.; a host of nieces, great nieces, great great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jamail was preceded in death by his parents, Shelia and William VanDyke; grandparents, Raymell and Sherman Smith, Cleola and Thomas Smith, Ben VanDyke Sr, Travis Sherrod, Mattie and John Arnold, Frank and Helen Sherrod; uncles¸ Clarence Brown and James VanDyke; aunt, Loral (Embra) Banks.

A Celebration of Life for Jamail will be held in Jackson Michigan on November 3, 2023, at The House of Johnson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with family hour at 10:30 a.m. It will be live streamed on the funeral home’s website www.thehouseofjohnsonfuneralhome.com
