She was born May 13, 1938, to the late William and Virginia Clark and preceded in death by sister, Gladys Johnson. Survived by her husband and best friend of 45 years, Frederick Jones, who loved his wife dearly and was by her side until the very end. Her legacy lives on through her children: William Patterson, Kenny Patterson, Jabbar Jones, and daughter Franeisha Jones. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was no doubt their heart and soul. Her love was rooted in tenderness and never diminished in strength or depth. She was indeed the best Wife and Mother!
Sue attended the Historically Black College and University, Kentucky State until deciding to serve her country by joining the United States Army. For the second half of her career, she dedicated her time to the City of Fulton, working at the Police Department and Public Works for over 48 years. As a result of her service, she earned the distinction of United States Veteran and Kentucky Colonel, as well as a dedicated day from the City of Fulton in her honor.
Affectionally known as Susie Q by friends and family, she was no stranger to fun. She enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and of course making friends wherever she went. Although Sue was soft-spoken, when it came to the University of Kentucky basketball, she would cheer her team on by yelling at the TV or visiting the magic at Rupp Arena every chance she got. She would battle anyone who spoke against her beloved Wildcats. It was often a house and family divided as the Jones men are avid University of Louisville fans.
Often you find Sue in her favorite spot on the couch, next to her husband, with a cup of coffee in hand watching the Price of Right and Let’s Make a Deal. She enjoyed sewing, reading magazines, puzzles, tending to her plants, and never turned down the opportunity to hit a good yard sale. Known for her cooking, you could always expect to smell food waffling through her home as she made her often requested and secret recipes. Susie loved to shop!!! Clothes, shoes, purses, and jewelry filled her closets because one thing for sure, she loved to dress and always looked sharp!
A true servant of God, she was a faithful member and Secretary of her Church, Highway 45 East in South Fulton, Tennessee. A devoted child of God, Sue spent the last weeks of her life serving the Lord. Her tenacity for life, awe inspiring faith, and services to others was the core of who she was. Always putting herself last speaks to the gentle and loving soul that she was. She understood that life should be lived which is why she was a member and the Queen of the Red Hat society who specialty was having fun and embracing life to the fullest.
Let Martha Sue Patterson Jones’ life serve as a constant reminder to always keep God at the center of your life, prioritize Him above all else, and let everything you do bring glory to His name. Though she may be physically departed from earth she will forever live on in our hearts.
